of Shanghai; Ph.D. in 1959 from Czechoslovak
Academy of Sciences directly under Professor
J. Heyrovsky, the Nobel Prize
Laureate.
He is the Member of the
Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Italy and the
Member of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences, the National Outstanding Scientist and Director
(1992-1996) and Deputy Director (1985-1991) of the
Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese
Academy of Sciences, and also the Director of Changchun
Scientific Research Center of Applied Chemistry, and the Director
of Changchun Research and Development Center of Analytical Instrumentation,
Vice President of the China Association on Instrumental Analysis,
the Editor-in-Chief of "Chinese
Journal of Analytical Chemistry" and the Member in the Editorial
Board of other seven chinese chemistry journals like "Acta.
Chim. Sinica" etc.. He has been in the Editorial Board of international
journals, such as "Anal.
Chim. Acta", "Talanta",
"Microchemical
Journal","Anal.
Letters","J.
Environ. Science and Health", "Electroanalysis"
and also the Member in the Electroanalytical Chemistry Commission
V of the IUPAC. He has been
the Visiting Professor at University
of Houston in USA (1984/1985) and also at University
of Bourgogne in Dijon in France(1988, 1992), at Kyoto
University in Japan(1989), and at Hong

He has presented over 100 seminars and lectures in different
foreign universities and institutions.
He is the National Member of the Chinese
Academic Degree Commission of Chemistry. He was the Standing
Director of the Chinese Chemical Society and Chairman of the
Analytical Chemistry Commission for eight years. He was the
President of Changchun Chemical Society (1986-1994) and is the
President of Jilin Provincial Chemical Society (1995- ).
He has published more than 450 papers
(till end of 2000) in the field of electrochemistry and analytical
chemistry especially electroanalytical chemistry and environmental
analysis. Besides the achievement of polarographic studies on
complex electrode processes and new methods, which has been
won the First Class Natural Science Award of the
Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1989, he had won the
award seven times from CAS, national and provincial government
before that period. In 1990, he won the First Class Natural
Science Award of CAS again for the new progress in the area
of electrochemistry at the liquid/liquid interface. In 1995,
he won the Second Class Natural Science Award of CAS for the
Achievement in liquid chromatography/ electrochemistry. Recently
he received First Winner of 10th Kharazmi International Festival
in Tehran, Iran, and World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland, February,
1997.
Except those areas, his recent research
interests are bioelectrochemistry including biosensors and biomembranes,
surface electrochemistry especially with STM and AFM techniques,
and capillary zone electrophoresis with electrochemical detector,
etc..
